What is a Slot?

slot

A narrow depression, groove, notch, or slit; a small opening for receiving something, such as a coin in a slot machine or a letter in a mail-box. A position in a schedule or sequence: He was slotted for the eight o’clock slot on Thursday.

A slot is an area of the reels in a casino game that pays out winning combinations when the spin button is pressed. Many online games also feature on-screen pay tables that show what combinations are most valuable and the payout amounts for each. The more symbols that line up, the higher the payout. Some slots have multiple pay lines while others have just one.

Some players believe that it is best to play at night, because the slots tend to pay more often at that time of day. However, this is a myth because the random number generator inside each slot machine is completely independent from any previous spins. It is also illegal for casinos to alter their machines so that they pay out more or less at certain times of the day.

A custom slot type is an identifier that maps values to slots in your bot. You can add a new slot type by clicking Add Slot Type from the left pane or from the Slots page. Choose Regular Expression as the Slot Type. Then enter a regular expression to match values. For example, if you want to match flight codes in your bot for handling any cancellations, enter the regular expression: [A-Z]2d3,4$.
