More than one quarter of residents in the Lower Mainland plan to attend Celebration of Light

27% of Lower Mainland residents surveyed say they will attend this year’s Honda Celebration of Light festival. This number does not include tourists or those who attend multiple shows.

The festival will be held in Vancouver’s English Bay July 27th, 31st and August 3rd.

Almost everybody knows about the event…

The survey indicates
90 % of Lower Mainland residents know about the festival

63% said they had attended the event at least once in the last five years.

Surprisingly, almost 40% were aware that that bleacher tickets were available for purchase which is a surprise given this is only the third year reserved seating available.

Attendees like the Celebration of Light
80 per cent of respondents having a favourable impression of the popular Vancouver event.

“This shows a strong interest in the festival, which has become an iconic Vancouver tradition and one of the most popular fireworks displays in North America,” says Brian Owen, CEO of NRG Research Group. “With the high level of awareness and support indicated by the survey, this year’s event could well attract record crowds.”

How they are getting there:
35% percent of respondents said they will take public transit

– 21% of Vancouver residents

– 42% of those living elsewhere in the Lower Mainland

Some will walk
18 per cent will walk 48 per cent of Vancouver respondents and 3 per cent from elsewhere in the Lower Mainland).

Very few will ride their bikes
Only 2% of those surveyed indicated they would bike to the event.

… and some will be looking for a parking spot
20% of Vancouver respondents
39% of those living elsewhere in the Lower Mainland

Survey details:
The telephone survey by NRG Research Group and Peak Communicators consisted of 400 respondents and has a confidence interval of +/- 4.9 per cent 19 times out of 20. It is weighted to be represented by age, gender and whether from Vancouver or elsewhere in the Lower Mainland. It was conducted on July 22nd and 23rd.
